I believe the greatest choice here was the size and scope. An environment shot like this one, done in the style of this artist, gives it the perfect and vibrant amount of depth and atmosphere. The style of the artist brings the clouds, the buildings, and even the forests below together very nicely.
Not long ago, I critiqued another work by this artist, done in this style. The setting and environment looked very nice and reflected upon the style of the artist. But it seemed to want to focus on the center, with an interaction between two characters who could have been given more detail. There almost seemed to be a punch line I couldn't get, or was overlooking. Initially the pegasus who appears to be holding the bright platform from the bottom caught my attention. It seemed to have an Atlas kind of feel to it, but it still isn't quite clear. But unlike the previous work, it doesn't distract from the clear and present masterpiece of the environment. If anything, it just compliments it.
I felt like that previous work was lacking something. Just a little change would have made it, just something seemed to be overlooked. Whatever it was, I believe he found it. Great work!
