Description

Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes that is a thing i totally have not missed out on reading all my life :| and only started reading for real this week from a volume I picked up last year. Yeah that really did not happen what are you lot talking about. ^^;

this comic is a parody of one of my favourite strips so far where Calvin avoids reading books kind of like a certain blue pony in season 2 wik wink. The script is almost identical to the original expect with the pony related words :roll: and the edition of the last panel that just adds to the whole joke.

I know that usually Twilight and Smarty-Pants are portrayed for Being the ponifed version of the characters but i thought choosing fillydash and flutterfilly :aww: would work better for the joke at the end of the comic. ;P

 So this comic also falls into the annual brony meet skechdumps i do every Friday. I sketched the whole thing yesterday night and finished inking it in this morning I added in the grey tones for a little more depth to the art.

 I hope you enjoy it

do want to apologise for the placement of some of the text :nuu: in the speech bubbles. I am not that great when it comes to writing traditional :doh:

I really love this comic strip. Calvin and Hobbes was basically my childhood, and it holds a special place in my heart. Thus, anybody who channels the spirit of Watterson with any degree of success is a winner in my book.

That being said, let's get on with the critique. I would actually rate your vision highest out of the four critiqueable categories, seeing as how you came up with a really effective backstory that explains Dash's interest in books, capitalizes on things like fillydash and flutterfilly being childhood friends, AND is one giant C&H reference.

Originality, unsurprisingly, is not the best feature of this comic, seeing as how the original idea belonged to Watterson, but I appreciate how well you sublimated it into the MLP universe. Definitely well done at any rate.

As far as technique goes, your lineart is good but could use a little polishing. Your shading also is very good, and I understand that doing full color would have taken forever, so no problems there. I also absolutely love your expressions -- Dash's face in panels 6 and 7 are just perfect. My only real concern is with your text, as there are several points where the words (which appear handwritten, correct me if I'm wrong) kind of run together and make it a bit harder to read. Overall definitely not bad though.

And of course Impact: reading this comic left me with a sense of deja vu, like "waaaaait... Calvin and Hobbes? ...Calvin and Hobbes. *squee*" Your portrayal of Dash as Calvin and Flutters as Hobbes is simply perfect, their relationships have so much in common that I can't believe I never noticed it before.

Please, please, PLEASE make more Dash & Flutters comics. Please.
