Vision

It's rather simply done here and very clearly shows what it intends to do: Showing Octavia receiving wings and her initial shock with regards to it. So, there's not really a lot to comment on here.

Originality

It's a piece of fanart, hence there isn't a fantastically high score for this, but the concept of a pony suddenly getting wings out of the blue is generally rare, at least from my POV, for canon characters. (More often than not, I remember seeing ponies that already have wings have theirs broken)

Technique

This is, admittedly, not a strong point of mine, but I do have some beef with how the picture was done. (It's not detrimentally serious)

The first point of contention rests on the overlap of abstract with realism within the picture. The backlegs and wings, for example, seem to be done with realism in mind, making them appear as though they were there IRL. The rest of the body, however, seems to be done in a more abstract sense, most notably the mane and tail.

Second point is that Octavia's eye in this picture is also crooked from the perspective of the show. The nose for her head goes straight through if it were a line that was allowed to continue cutting through the head. The eye, however, points directly down towards the nose instead, which clashes with the design of the show's characters.

Apologies if this was your intention, however.

And hopefully, that made sense in your head...

Other than that, everything else is done very well: As aforementioned, when it was done, either the rough abstract style or the 'smooth' style were done well and Octavia's shock comes through in the picture. The feathers also add as a nice touch to show how truly spontaneous the appearance of wings was.

Impact

From being a picture with a more unique viewpoint, the idea of Octavia just suddenly receiving wings does indeed pop out to me, as would any of the canon characters suddenly having wings on their back. It is, indeed, quite intriguing to think of what would happen if it were the case that wings suddenly formed on someone's back. What would happen if that were the case? What would their friends thing?

***

And that's about it for the critique. Overall, it's quite a nice picture and it presents some interesting ideas; it just needs some touching up.

If there are any points of contention you have with the critique, do let me know.

Now for me to actually go and do something like that for my own art...
