Early Journey by Jowybean Early Journey by Jowybean
Kick starting 2018 with a strong illustration of my elaborate concept for Canterlot based on my map sketches a few years ago.

City of the Above the other side sketch by Jowybean

For me I want to focus on making MLP slice of life/action art that dose not only show the epicness of Equestria but the unique fantasy style of the architecture and landscapes that I enjoy thinking up when exploring the world of our equine friends. :)

I am not sure how many of these ideas i will get done over the course of this year due to my freelance business / original projects taking up more time and my desire to create art of other fandom's with this same attention to detail :eager:

regardless of time Until next deviation LATERS Bronies Peace

sketched in Photoshop CS6 with my Wacom in 17 hours

Is this Cute :meow: Win :winner: Fail :crying:

I'm speechless. This picture literally left me out of breath.

....

This is no doubt one of, if not your best piece yet. The amount of detail is enough reason to amaze, but you also combine an original, beautiful idea with my favorite style that you are well-known for.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing I can find to criticise about this piece. It's original, incredibly fun to search for little details, a breathtaking blend of colors and Rarity is always a pleasure to see in her natural habitat. The only thing I wonder is why Rarity is alone in this massive city. Most likely for aesthetic.

Well done. I remember first finding your work on the title screen for episode titles, a few years ago. You have improved so much ever since. You continue to amaze me and so many others with your incredible skills as an artist and an observer of the show. Keep soaring, JBean! Keep bouncing to greater heights!

Just...just..how long did it take you to draw this? Also this feels very "Coco" in these of this expansive, tall, detailed city in the background of the main chracters

JBean, please show us how you make pieces. Like, maybe an overtime drawing, showing the stages of drawing.

Nice style! The first thing I thought of was some of those Google Deep Dream images (shape and colorwise, but a lot more coherent obviously!).

You made Canterlot look like a place where ponies could actually live.

What's on that prohibition sign?

I'm blown away! Loving the birds just doing their morning things, and the... whatever- they-ares flying into the mountain shadow. A nice eyecatching way to way to show the city's dual nature and to capture the feel of the early hour. I want to go on some massive dérive in its climbing alleyways and paths, like one of Hayao Miyazaki's imagined cities.

The level of detail and the sheer scale of the scene is magnificent. I've always been amazed by your use of contrasting colours - it makes the objects stand out but at the same time gives the image a very specific atmosphere. In two words, great job!

This reminds me of some Rokoko or Baroque structures I've seen in german castles. Was that your inspiration?

For a real architect, these buildings would be a nightmare to build, but a dream to look at :aww:

Wonderful piece of artwork. The houses' look kinda make me think of a mix between Bavaria and fairtytales... are those fruit carvings I see there? Very neat.

...I just wonder what the forbidden-sign on the left actually implies.

...aaaand I am looking for a Starbucks-sign. That coffee must've come from somewhere, after all.
